optimize your ads for maximum revenue

i'm not too often checking my ads revenue. so recently i see that my adbrite is not performing very well. so, i try to check what options i got there to maximize my revenue. after browsing a while, i found the option where i can reserve pricing. here, i set a price for adbrite to beat. if they can pay me more than this, they will show their ads. otherwise, they will show my adsense.
in addition, i also set the adsense alternate url ads to point to my amazon affiliate code.

this way, with one single javascript code from adbrite, i got 3 different ads networks competing for one ad space. amazon vs adsense vs adbrite.

here's how it work:
  • if adbrite can pay me more than the price i set, then adbrite ads will show up
  • if adbrite cant pay more that that, then adsense script takes over
  • if adsense can give relevant ads, then adsense ads will show up
  • if adsense fail to find relevant ads, it will display my amazon ads instead of the unpaid public service ads.
one of the ads must show up. and hopefully, this will maximize my revenue. only time will tell.
see the Indonesian Online Discussion Community to see how this works.

you can also try these alternate ads:

so, what you do to maximize your ads revenue?

blogger to mailing list gateway

you might have seen this feature before. but, if you were like me, you might not even care what this blogsend about.
this is the email address you want to send every blog posted on your blogger to. sort of blogger to email gateway.

" so what... i dont want my blog posts emailed back to me. " i hear some of you said.

this is how i make use of it.
  • make a mailing list (google groups or yahoo groups)
  • put your mailing list address there
  • instead of using feedblitz or rss2mail, let your visitors subscribe to your mailing list
now, you have full control to your subscribers. you can even let your subscriber discussing your blog posts right in your mailing list.

new lycos tripod service

now.
lycos tripod (uk, at least) offer 1GB webspace complete with php 5, plus 10MB mysql database. this quite strange though. usually we store our web in database more than the webspace itself. so now we have to store everything in file so that we wont run out of database storage...

and that space is not counting the email space offered by jubii beta.

We offer the first million beta members 10GB of storage, after this we offer a standard 4 GB. This is a combination of your communication and media storage.

nb. jubii is much more than just email (like yahoo/gmail/hotmail/etc.) it's also a storage (like xdrive?) that allow you upload anything to it.

any better webspace offer with php+mysql on a reliable host (that do not disappear with your files after few months...) ???

see my test web on lycos tripod:

indonesian can receive money from paypal

now! indonesian can receive fund using paypal.

it require you to verify your real identity by giving your credit card details. then you must authorize paypal to charge you $1.5. then you will need to enter 4-digit Expanded Use Number from your credit card statement to verify that you are real with real address and real credit card.

then after that (supposedly) you can receive money using your paypal account.

i still waiting for my 4-digit Expanded Use Number in next month credit card statement.
better wait for the 4-digit 'magic number' to confirm if this is for real.

update:
nope. that 4-digit 'junk' do not allow me to receive money. wonder why the web offer me this when i choose to receive money. may be a bug in their web? coz they're setting up new websites (that you see now)
still wonder if the business account let us receive money???

why cnet rated minimo & ygo so good?

just browsing download.com and see they review on minimo and yahoo go 2 and wondering why they rate both these software so good?
while, both these huge big fat bloatedware is very extremely slow. unless, you have the latest gadget with fast processor and big ram, both these apps is useless.

maybe...
they never tried opera, netfront and the old but still the best, yahoo go 1.

or maybe...
they always test latest apps on latest gadget with fastest processor and huge ram.

that's how the 'industry' is pushing us. buy the latest and faster pc/gadget every few months so that you can use the latest apps which always require more cpu and more ram. is this just a hype...

to blog or to wiki, that is the question

why people blog more than wiki?
maybe because blog is easy? blog is for everybody? wiki is for nerd?

why people put howtos and other documentation in their blog? while documentations is much better put in wiki so we can easily edit and update.

blog was started as diary, news update, something that change in time. now people use blog for everything.

maybe...
for publicity? coz, your blog usually pinged to many social networking sites and search engines like technorati, blog search, etc...
you get free publicity for blogging.

wiki? you have to just wait for google to crawl your site. then someone lucky to google and found something they like on your wiki.

what d'u think?

foolproof out-of-the-box security

i wrote once about why firewall can become useless in many computers.

very well illustrated by techsupportalert.com :

Vendor: "I can't see how you could say it failed when the user was given warning when he tried to execute the program"

Gizmo: "Yes, but all the warning said was that a new program was starting. The user knew that; he was trying to run a game. There was nothing suspicious."

Vendor: "But he was warned and he could have stopped it"

Gizmo: "Well how would he know that? To him it was just a game"

Vendor: "He was warned. What more can I say?"

Gizmo (Exasperated) "But it wasn't even a real warning, it just said a new program was trying to start. Of course it was - he was trying to run a game."

Vendor: "My product can't be expected to defend people who are too stupid to take notice of the warnings the software gives them"

I kid you not. Needless to say the conversation ended on less than friendly terms.

and now, we have the foolproof technology to protect users from malware. even if it can infect your computer, it will have very limited access to your computer, thus, might not be very harmful.
the software using HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) and Sandbox technology. both programs will allow you run any other apps without too much popup asking you what to do each time you start a new program, like any other personal firewall on the market today.

from all those tested products, it showed that DefenseWall and CyberHawk are the HIPS programs you should choose. and GreenBorder, SandBoxIe and BufferZone are the choices for Sandboxing apps.

i see sandboxie is very attractive in price (free! can you beat that!), size and performance. and also DefenseWall, except for its price tag :)
if you cant afford DefenseWall, use CyberHawk instead. but CyberHawk seems to slowed down my windows and sometimes using almost 100% cpu

which one you use? how well they perform?

tracking forum and blog comments

tracking comments posted on other blogs is old story now... you can use co.mments.com or cocoments, etc...

but if you get into many forums, you know that tracking comments on blogs is not even half of your posts.
and, if you gets in really lots of forums, you'll really pulling your hair out to one-by-one see which forum have reply to your post.

now, after commentful acquired by blogflux, they've put up the new commentful that allow you to watch your conversations on forum, blogs, and more. you can even track cocomment :P

now, i dont have to bother opening lots of forum pages just to see that nobody yet respond to my posts...

filtered dns for safer internet

before, i posted on other blogs about using hosts file to 'censor' phishing sites and websites with malware, etc.
now, i just reviewed 3 internet services to offer a live alternatives to hosts file, filtered dns server.

the first who started it (cmiiw) is opendns.com
it offer only blocking phishing sites. similar to siteadvisor, in function. in their forum there're talks about 'censoring' other malware/badware sites too, in their future plan.
(i dont care about their 'smart' feature to correct misspelling, or other fancy feature)
service is currently 100% free.

then, there is scrubdns.com, also accessible at scrubit.com
it block pornographic and malicious sites. the beta account allow you also block other site that you want to block. the account might be charged for a fee in the future.
i'd really like to see inside the beta...

third, safefromsites.com selling the service per computer basis. i dont know how can they count how many computer i have inside my adsl router? like i always do, never pay for something you can get for free... :)

off course, like any other services, someone might suspect of their real intention. nothing in life is 'really' free.

what i really like is, i dont have to bother go to each and every computer to update hosts file to block those badware. they can help a lot in this.

what d'u think?

Jakarta bebas banjir. A proposal for flood-free jakarta

Proposal yg harus dilakukan pemda jabodetabek, bogor dan semua pemda yg ingin daerahnya bebas banjir dan longsor.
- memaksimalkan aliran air bawah tanah
- membangun banyak sumur resapan hujan
- imb hanya keluar dgn syarat membuat/mempunyai sumur resapan hujan
- memaksimalkan daerah resapan dgn hutan kota
- mempromosikan kebersihan aliran air dan kebersihan secara umum, sepanjang tahun. Tdk hanya di musim hujan dan dd/dbd.
- adanya sangsi dan/atau denda yg jelas dan tegas utk setiap pelanggaran

karna selama ini pemerintah tidak (belum?) bisa diandalkan, it's all start with
YOU. What will YOU do?

Review New Yahoo Go 2 beta.

Despite the contact sync problem, I love the old Yahoo Go apps.

So, i get the latest beta and install it. Lucky me I dont need to remove my current version to have this beta runs.

The bad.
What's new junk:
- large graphics ads
- navigation menu graphics too big
- only half screen contain real usefull content
- painfully slow, maybe because it's java
- from startup welcome screen to usable apps menu takes about 30seconds on n6630
- need at least 6 meg free ram to start
- with almost 7meg free ram still unable to run screensnap to take screenshot
- all the sport, finance, news, photo that you do not need (yet) gets downloaded eat up too much bytes that counted to your bill
- search, email, and almost everything elses is slow. Much slower than old ygo. Almost unusable.

the ugly.
all my most favorite features, the top reason i use ygo is now gone

good stuffs removed from old version:
- no more sync. no contact, no calendar, and no task sync
- offline email archives. If you want to read mail, you need to get connected
- yahoo photo replaced by flickr

the good.
Well... One good thing is that it didnt replace the great old ygo i have.
:)

summary:
i cant see anything usefull. At least not for me.

spambot did it again

now, my favorite social bookmark spurl.net get attacked.

i suggest all hosting have apache ModSecurity installed so that we can blacklist those spammers IP address, just like how mail servers do with dnsbl/rbl.

also, protects some of your scripts, especially the one that handle all the posting, from direct access by using htaccess.
